Outdoor Expo, Fun Run, and Auction
Come join Trinity Christian School, Opelika Mainstreet, and the Alabama Wildlife Federation for the Outdoor Expo, Fun Run, and Auction on April 9th, 2011. Each of these non-profit organizations plays an important role in our local community, and even throughout the world.
This event has been in the planning for several months as a committee of parents has been hard at work to put together an event that would serve as an outreach to the community and as a fundraiser for the school, the AWF, and Opelika Mainstreet. The event will take place in downtown Opelika between WinstonSmith T hardware and Railroad Avenue. A large portion of that downtown area will be blocked off.
A family-friendly 5K will begin at 8:00 A.M. and will be followed by a one-mile run immediately afterwards. We expect this opening event to be done by 10:00 AM.
Beginning at 10:00 A.M., area experts will present workshops on various topics related to the outdoors experience. These workshops include a falconry event by Roy Crowe, a deer management program by Auburn University’s deer research facility, fly casting by a Federation of Fly Fisherscertified instructor, organic pest control by Alabama Water Watch, pond management by Rusty Wright, various gardening workshops and many other interesting and informative topics. The workshops will be 15-30 minutes in length.
Additionally there will be vendors and exhibitors present, representing various local businesses. There will also be a number of fun activities for kids and live musical entertainment. The entire event will be done by 2:00 P.M.
The fundraising portion of this event will come from the Fun Run registration and also from a silent auction with a variety of desirable items. Please watch the TCS website and this Facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=149371165123614) for updates on workshops and auction items.
I hope that you will find this event to be of interest to you. We do expect a good turnout of several hundred people. It will be advertised through radio ads, local community calendars, the Opelika-Auburn News, and a flyer that will go to every Opelika household. If you are interested in volunteering, exhibiting, donating auction items, or conducting a workshop, please contact me through Trinity Christian School.
