Two years ago Trinity was pleased to learn that one of our students was Opelika’s only National Merit Scholar semi-finalist. We are pleased once again to learn that another TCS student has been recognized for the distinction of National Merit Scholar semi-finalist. Catherine Patton is a junior and has been at Trinity since kindergarten. Besides having a strong academic aptitude, Catherine has excelled in many other ways as well. She has received numerous honors throughout her years at Trinity and has held key positions in the drama department, girl’s varsity soccer team, advanced band, jazz band, choir, and honor society. Catherine also consistently demonstrates many positive and godly personal characteristics and epitomizes a Trinity student. Being selected as even a semi-finalist is an outstanding accomplishment that is shared among a small group of students around the the country. According to their own website:

“The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. NMSC accomplishes its mission by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs. The enduring goals of NMSC’s scholarship programs are:

  • to promote a wider and deeper respect for learning in general and for exceptionally talented individuals in particular
  • to shine a spotlight on brilliant students and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence at all levels of education
  • to stimulate increased support from organizations that wish to sponsor scholarships for outstanding scholastic talent”

Congratulations to Catherine and her parents, and best wishes as she continues through the National Merit Scholarship process.
